how to get through the bad days
The secret to getting through the training sessions that you don’t want to show up for, is living through enough of those sessions to realise that how you feel before the session has no reliable impact on how your session will turn out.
Some of the best sessions I have ever had, have been the ones I showed up for when I felt like trash and really didn’t want to. I went from struggling to get out of anxious thought loops, to getting a sandbag to shoulder personal best.
And some of the more challenging sessions I have ever had, have been ones that I felt fantastic going into. I went from feeling confident I was going to get a overhead press personal best, to failing my warm ups.
Sometimes things go exactly how you expect them to.
But sometimes you can be completely and utterly surprised.
Knowing that allows you to let go of any and all expectations and stops your mood from dictating your actions.
A bad mood doesn’t have to mean a bad session.
Just show up and who knows, you might just have the best session ever.
It can be hard to have faith in that idea, but trust me, once you have enough lived experience of bad days that turned into amazing sessions, you’ll understand.
But until you stack your own evidence, just keep showing up and remember how you feel going into the session has no reliable impact on how your session will turn out.
